Description
YUCO-eDNA Micro-AUV
Compact Autonomous Underwater Vehicle for Non-Invasive Biodiversity Monitoring
The YUCO-eDNA micro-AUV is a next-generation underwater vehicle that makes autonomous AUV technology accessible, portable, and effective for environmental DNA (eDNA) collection. Designed for simple and cost-effective biodiversity assessments, YUCO-eDNA enables non-invasive sampling in natural environments to detect the presence of various aquatic species (including rare or elusive ones9 based on trace genetic material left in the water.
Equipped with INX navigation, DVL (Doppler Velocity Log), and SEAPLAN mission planning software, this micro-AUV provides reliable and accurate performance without the need for external acoustic positioning systems. Its compact design allows for single-person deployment and is optimised for both first-time users and experienced marine operators.
Key Features
• Purpose-built for eDNA sampling in marine and freshwater environments
• Integrated INX navigation system for precise autonomous movement
• Equipped with DVL to maintain altitude, improve positioning, and compensate for drift
• No need for external acoustic telemetry – accuracy better than ±2%
• Watertight peristaltic pump system avoids sample contamination
• Optional flow meter for measuring water throughput during filtration
• Compatible with VigiDNA© filtration kits (sold separately by Spygen)
• Includes SEACOMM communication module for in-field control
• Controlled via SEAPLAN mission software with predefined patterns (e.g., lawnmower path)
• Ideal for both exploratory and repeated eDNA missions
The YUCO-eDNA micro-AUV is delivered ready to deploy with all necessary components for eDNA collection, including onboard navigation, control, and pumping systems. Its unmatched ease of use, autonomy, and sampling precision make it a powerful tool for researchers, conservationists, and environmental monitoring professionals.
